We welcome our newest member: YoloCares

Greetings from the California Hospice Network! Lots has been happening at CHN, and I wanted to share some news about our work to strengthen community-based nonprofit hospice organizations throughout the state.

Welcome YoloCares

We welcomed new member YoloCares to CHN last fall, and we’re thrilled to have them on board. For more than 45 years, YoloCares has been committed to high quality end-of-life hospice care across five counties in Northern California. Like all of our member organizations, they are continuing to operate as a distinct and independent nonprofit, while leveraging the best practices, operational efficiencies, and cost savings of CHN to ensure their long-term sustainability in our rapidly changing healthcare environment.

New board members join our mission

CHN also has welcomed new board members from across California. Led by Chair Dr. Robert Roe, the CHN board includes representatives from its member boards. Together, they have expertise in all aspects of serious illness care, from quality and clinical education to financial oversight and strategic planning. We thank them for their volunteer service and commitment to the future of community-based nonprofit hospice care.

Looking ahead to our upcoming conference

We are co-hosting a national care conference in Sacramento on June 24, 2022. “Quintessential Care Summit: Emerging Considerations for Life’s Final Chapter” will feature keynote speaker Dr. BJ Miller and other industry leaders. We will explore emerging ideas and approaches to palliative and supportive care. I’ll be talking about “Challenging the Status Quo of Care in California,” and describing why nonprofit hospices need to work together in new ways to continue to deliver the exceptional patient care for which we’re known. Tickets are on sale now for this engaging educational summit. Whether you’re a care provider of any kind, an industry expert, or a community member, I think you’ll learn and think about palliative and supportive care in new ways. I hope to see you at the beautiful Sacramento State University campus in June.

We want to hear from you

I’d also love to hear from you before then. What opportunities and challenges is your organization facing? Are you feeling pressure from for-profit hospices (which, by the way, now comprise more than 91% of California’s 1,200 hospices)? How are you adapting to the rapid and myriad changes in the healthcare landscape?Of course, I’d especially like to hear from you if you’re ready to learn more about how CHN can help you navigate these challenges. I truly believe – and our members are seeing – that we are stronger together.Regards,
